How do I track a Canada Post package?
Your tracking number is in the merchant’s shipping confirmation email. It has 16 digits, or 11 or 13 characters ending in “CA”. Enter it in the Track tool at canadapost.ca.
Where to enter your tracking number
Open the Canada Post Track tool. It accepts your tracking number or the 15-digit number on your Delivery Notice Card. Canada Post can’t look up a number by name or address, so ask the merchant for it.
What Canada Post tracking statuses mean
- Out for delivery: the package is heading to your address.
- Notice left: the package couldn’t be delivered and is waiting at a post office.
- Delivered as a safe drop: the package was left in a safe spot at your place, usually with a photo.

Is your package late?
Track shows the expected delivery date. According to Canada Post, most packages arrive no later than five business days after that date. Beyond that, you can open a missing package investigation. Let the merchant know too: only the sender can request compensation.

I got a Delivery Notice Card. How long do I have to pick up my package?
The package is held for 15 calendar days at the post office shown, then returned to the sender. A Final Notice card is sent after five calendar days.
What ID do I need to pick up a package at the post office?
Original, valid, government-issued photo ID, plus proof of residence if your address isn’t on it. Someone else can go with their own ID and the Delivery Notice Card signed by you, with their name on it.
My package shows “Delivered”, but I can’t find it. What should I do?
Check the address and look around the property; in a building, check the mailroom. Still nothing? Report it to Canada Post and let the merchant know.
What does “Tracking information is unavailable” mean?
It doesn’t mean the package wasn’t shipped. Tracking isn’t available yet, or can no longer be displayed. Check again later.
Can I get delivery updates by email or text?
Yes. Sign up for delivery notifications in the Track tool or the Canada Post app before the package is delivered.
