What supplement brands need from a 3PL

A dietary supplement is something your customers swallow. Every jar has to ship intact, sealed and well before its expiry date, and you need to know at all times where each lot is. In Canada, most supplements are natural health products: they carry a Natural Product Number (NPN) issued by Health Canada, and a recall means finding the affected orders fast.

Formats make shipping harder too. A large tub of protein is expensive to ship, while a bottle of capsules fits in a small mailer. Gummies and softgels don’t like heat, and a damaged seal is enough to make a product unsellable.

Many brands also sell on several channels at once: their online store, Amazon, pharmacies and health food stores. Each channel has its own rules, sometimes its own date requirements, and one inventory has to serve them all without mistakes. That takes warehousing where every lot is identified from the moment it arrives.

How much does supplement fulfillment cost?

Pricing depends on the space your inventory takes up, the number of orders and items per order, the lot tracking you need and shipping. A brand selling mostly large protein tubs does not pay the same as a brand selling light capsules. Our 3PL cost calculator gives a first range; the quote then details every fee, with no hidden costs.

Do you track lot numbers and expiry dates for my supplements?

It is one of the first things to set up. Before your first delivery, we agree with you on what to record for each product (lot number, expiry date) and the order in which inventory ships, for example first expired, first out (FEFO). If there is a recall, you know which lots are in stock, which have shipped and to which customers.

Does my supplement need an NPN before it reaches the warehouse?

In Canada, a supplement is usually a natural health product: it needs a Natural Product Number (NPN) issued by Health Canada before it can be sold, and a compliant bilingual label. These obligations belong to your brand. Sort them out before shipping your inventory: a 3PL cannot legally ship a product that cannot be sold.

Can I sell my supplements in the U.S. from your Chicago warehouse?

Yes. Your stock can cross the border in one shipment, then your U.S. orders ship from our warehouse near Chicago as domestic parcels. Kolineo can act as the importer in the United States. What happens to a supplement a customer returns?

An opened product or a broken seal never goes back on sale. Depending on your instructions, it is quarantined, sent back to your supplier or destroyed with proof of destruction. An intact product, with a seal and date that meet your rules, goes back into stock, usually within 24 hours of arrival. See our returns management service.

My products are sensitive to heat or humidity. Can you store them?

Tell us on the first call which storage conditions appear on your products, especially for gummies, softgels and probiotics. We will tell you honestly whether our facilities meet them, before you sign rather than at your first delivery.
